Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy

Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy

Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy is peripheral neuropathy that is caused from the drugs and chemotherapy to treat cancer, which damage the peripheral nerves in the process. This condition is a very troubling side-effect of chemotherapy, as the body is already sensitive to pain, and it can cause the patient further pain. The symptoms for CIPN all depend on the peripheral nerves that were damaged during chemotherapy treatment. Some of the other symptoms for Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy include: tingling, numbness, vertigo, limited extremity usage, muscle weakness, sensitivity to cold and heat, blood pressure changes, and irregular urination patterns.

How Can Calmare® Treat My Pain?

Often the treatment for Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy will incorporate the use of the Calmare® device, which has been used to successfully treat over 4,000 patients worldwide, and it has been shown to be effective in treating neuropathic and oncologic pain. The Calmare® device is extremely useful in helping to reduce swelling, stiffness, and the amount of pain patients with CIPN report.

The Calmare® device uses a biophysical rather than a biochemical approach. A “no-pain” message is transmitted to the nerve via disposable surface electrodes applied to the skin in the region of the patient’s pain. The perception of pain is cancelled when the no-pain message replaces that of pain, by using the same pathway through the surface electrodes in a non-invasive way. Regardless of pain intensity, a patient’s pain can be completely removed for immediate relief.
